Herbert J. Freson, age 97, of Huntingburg, passed away at 12:00 noon,Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at his residence.

Herbert Freson Obituary Photo499_edited-1           He was born March 18, 1918 in Huntingburg, Indiana, to John and Anna (Engert) Freson.  Mr. Freson was a furniture craftsman for Dolly Madison Industries, where he retired.  He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and V.F.W. Post #2366; enjoyed woodworking and wine making as hobbies; and was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, stationed in Italy during World War II.  Herb married Anna Marie Rohlman on May 14, 1946 in Jasper; Anna passed away July 2, 1962.  He married his second wife, Rosemary Chappell, on November 30, 1974 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg; Rosemary passed away April 1, 2015.  He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Fritz Freson, Charlie Freson, Hugo Freson and Bob Freson; two sisters, Mamie Mehringer and Rose Fowler; and one step grandson.

 

He is survived by:

Dodie (Steve) Uhl of Jasper, Ind.;

One son,

Jim (Sue) Freson of Newburgh, Ind.;

Four stepdaughters,

Vicky (Steve) Wagner of Huntingburg, Ind.,

Pat (Dan) Gehlhausen of Celestine, Ind.,

Barb (Tom) Hall of Holland, Ind.,

Deanna (Brad) Schmett of La Quinta, California;

One stepson,

Robert Lange of Jasper, Ind.;

by (12) grandchildren, (25) great grandchildren and (3) great-great grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass for Herb J. Freson will be held at 10:00 a.m., E.S.T., onSaturday, November 7, 2015, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg with interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Huntingburg.  The V.F.W. Post #2366 Memorial Detail will conduct military graveside rites.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 2:00-8:00 p.m., E.S.T., on Friday.  A parish vigil prayer service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday afternoon, at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions can be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  Condolences may be shared with the family online at:  www.nassandson.com
