The Indiana Association of County Commissioners presented Dubois County Commissioner Larry Vollmer as the recipient of this year’s Most Enterprising Commissioner award.

Vollmer has served with the commissioners since 2001 and won the 2015 award for his continued work and search for solutions to local issues.

An IACC press release says Vollmer was nominated because he is intent on saving taxpayers dollars while also understanding the urgency to upgrade county department needs, most notably Dubois County’s emergency communications system.

Vollmer was able to gather key partners with many agencies, including Homeland Security, a member of the Indianapolis Department of Public Safety, all fire chiefs in the county, a representative from Central Dispatch, the county’s emergency management agency, the county sheriff and the county highway department.

The group identified reliability, coverage and congestion concerns and worked to design a system that would serve the county’s needs. The project came to completion this year.

Vollmer’s was bestowed the award during the IACC’s annual conference last week in Marion County. The conference included several workshops and breakout sessions designed specifically for county commissioners and support staff.

County commissioners also had informal opportunities to discuss issues with their colleagues from other areas of the state.
