Are you wanting to lose weight in the new year? The Dubois County Visitors Center is hosting a competition that can help.

The center has announced that they are once again hosting a 10-week weight-loss competition in the new year similar to competitions they hosted in 2013 and 2014.

This competition will hold a person accountable to their weight-loss goals as well as award money to individuals who lose the highest percentage of weight.

The initial weigh-in will take place at 5:30 pm Tuesday at the Dubois County Visitors Center located along North Newton Street adjacent to the Dubois County Museum in Jasper.

Those who can’t make that time can call the center at 812-482-9115 to schedule a later weigh-in.

The initial fee to enter the competition is $10. If a competitor misses a weekly weigh-in, they will have to pay $1.

Weekly weigh-ins will take place at the center at 5:30 pm every Tuesday or anytime from 8 am till 4 pm on Mondays or Tuesdays.

If no weight is lost at the weekly weigh-in, the competitor will have to pay $1. If weight is gained, the person will also have to pay $1 per pound gained.

Weight-loss measurements will be based on percentage of weight lost and not on pounds lost.  No other individuals, besides the person conducting the weigh-ins, will know the other participants weight.

A weekly progress report will be sent to individuals participating in the competition to keep track of where they stand on their goals as well as their ranking in comparison to others in the competition.

The person who loses the highest percentage of weight will receive the majority of the money collected with a small percentage going to the second place winner and a small percentage going to the Dubois County Community Food Bank.
