Pauline C. Kern, 85, of Mariah Hill, passed away, Friday January 15, 2016, at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand.

Pauline was born October 27, 1930, to Paul and Theresia (Tretter) Gogel in Mariah Hill. She married Andrew F. Kern on April 22, 1950 in Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Mariah Hill. He preceded her in death on July 20, 2004. Pauline was a homemaker and also helped on the farm. She was a member of Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church and its Ladies Sodality. Through Mary Help of Christian Church Pauline was a recipient of the Mother Theresa Award as well as the Simon Brute’ Award. She was a member of the St. Meinrad Legion Post 366 Auxiliary.

Pauline enjoyed gardening, quilting, jigsaw puzzles, word searches, playing cards, flowers and bird watching.

Pauline is survived by three sons, John (Charlene) Kern, Raymond (Sylvia) Kern and David Kern all of Mariah Hill; five daughters, Rose (Charles “Chuck”) Pund, Charmaine (Marty) Oxford all of Mariah Hill, Mary (Albert “Erfle”) Denning of St. Meinrad, Ruth (James “Moody”) Mattingly of Gentryville, Barbara (Scott) Weisman of Ireland, Martha (Stan) Steckler of Leopold; thirty-eight grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren. Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Kern; a daughter, Kathleen Kern in childhood; one granddaughter, Annette (Kern) Truax; one great- granddaughter, Gretchen Kern; one sister, Sr. Mechtilde Gogel OLVM; four brothers, Alvin, Carl, Zeno Gogel and Father Odo Gogel O.S.B.

Funeral services will be Monday at 2:00 PM CST in Mary Help of Christians Church Mariah Hill, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2-8:00 PM CST at the church and Monday at the church from noon until time of services.
