The Jasper Police Department has issued a release reminding citizens of Jasper and Dubois County about the use of drones in the community and around the county.

The department says the Federal Aviation Administration now requires that every drone must be registered before it is flown, drones that weigh over one half pound and must have a compliant label of identification as well as carry a certificate of registration.

The department also adds that if a drone is used to peep into an occupied dwelling of another person then it is considered an act of Voyerism. Voyerism is considered a Class B misedemeanor and under certain circumstances could be enhanced to a Level 6 Felony.

In order to obtain a certificate of registration go online to www.faa.gov/uas/registration.

Residents are encouraged to contact the Jasper Police Department at 812-482-2255 to report any issues that should arise with the use of any drones.
