The leadership organization-Women Empowering Women held a special membership meeting at the St. Joseph Church Parish Center on Wednesday, where members were encouraged to attend and bring along a guest to learn more about the organization, it’s benefits and its scheduled meetings set for the rest of this year.

At each meeting there’s an interactive topic that brings awareness to take action in becoming a more prepared leader. The interactive topic for the special membership meeting was a presentation given about HeartMath.

HeartMath deals with stress management. The presentation was provided by Suzanne Burgess, Director of Post-Surgical, Pediatrics, and Clinical Education and Kelly Clauss, Vice President of Medical Practice Management and Support Services at Jasper’s Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center.

The presenters explained how HeartMath can allow an individual to reduce stress and build energy for healthier interaction among each other.

Now, HeartMath may appear as a form of meditation but it does differ since HeartMath can be self-driven and separate from meditation.

Burgess, encouraged the group of leaders to take HeartMath home. She says she and Clauss they had spoken to a county basketball team recently and that during a recent game team players were reminding each other to use their HeartMath. She added that Companies have started using the technique as a stress management agent.

Topics such as stress management are among the effective sessions for the group. Jasper Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Nancy Eckerle explained that as she attempted to create the leadership for women she spoke with various women in the community and as many as 45 women stepped up to be in the planning group when this organization first began.

Presently, there are now sub-planning committees that plan ahead each year for sessions that will take place the following year.
Eckerle elaborates on the spectrum and the purpose this leadership organization serves for the Dubois County community.

The next program for the 2016 meeting series is set for April 13th focusing on network opportunities.
