Jerome “Chick” Alles, age 90, Mayor of the City of Jasper from January 1, 1980 thru December 31, 1991 passed away at 11:05 a.m. Saturday, (July 2, 2016), in Memorial Hospital & Health Care Center in Jasper.

Mayor Alles was born in Jasper, Indiana on May 22, 1926 to Jacob J. and Anna T. (Rasche) Alles.  He married Annie (Hoffman) on May 22, 1947 in St. Meinrad Abbey Catholic Church. Annie Alles preceded him in death on January 21, 2014.

He graduated from Jasper High School Class of 1944. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in the European Theatre during WWII. Besides his three terms as mayor of the city of Jasper, he served on the Dubois County Council for two terms 1993 – 2001 and 13 years as Bainbridge Township Trustee from 1967 – 1979 also many years on the city park board.

Played baseball and basketball at JHS and was a member of the 1944 Jasper High School Basketball sectional champions.

Two time Recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash Award, Once each by Governors Bayh and O’Bannon. Named and honorary field examiner by the Indiana State Board of accounts and was the first Democrat to ever to receive this award.

He was an avid sports fan, played for the Jasper Reds baseball team, big fan of Jasper High School Wild cats sports, San Francisco Giants and IU Basketball. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, V.F.W. Post # 673 American Legion Post # 147 and J-Men Letterman Club.

Ten grandchildren, Ryan Hochgesang, Melanie Alles, Stephanie Alles, Michael Alles, Natalie Merkley, Kristin Alles, Steve Alles , Mallory Alles, Austin Alles and  Matthew Alles. Four great grandchildren. Mia Hochgesang, Madeline Alles , Claire Alles and Edward Alles.

Preceding him in death besides his wife are six brothers, Hilary, Oliver, James, Norbert, Edward and Charles Alles.

Funeral services for Jerome “Chick” Alles will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, (July 7, 2016), in St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial to follow in the Jasper City Cemetery. V.F.W. Post # 673 will conduct military grave side rites.

Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. Thursday until service time at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.
