Urban O. Blessinger, 81, of Huntingburg, passed away at 12:50 a.m., Sunday, January 15, 2017, at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville.

He was born December 6, 1935, in Jasper to Edward and Veronica (Vogler) Blessinger; and married Barbara J. Streicher on September 3, 1960, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. Mr. Blessinger was a past Clerk-Treasurer for the City of Huntingburg and also ran an accounting business. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict; member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, life member of V.F.W. Post #2366 and Moose Lodge; Holland American Legion; and Fraternal Order of Eagles #3335 where he served as Secretary for 19 years. Urban was preceded in death by his daughter, Kristi L. Wheatley, who died June 28, 2011; eight brothers, Silas, Victor, Roman, Alois, Sylvester, Claude, Jerome and Elmer Blessinger; and five sisters, Sr. Theresa Blessinger, Sr. Olivia Blessinger, Gertrude Hollander, Bernadette Blessinger and Doretha Paris.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara J. Blessinger; one son and three daughters, Kerry (April) Blessinger, Amy (Gary) Hoffman and Julie Birkle all of Huntingburg, and Kim (Rodney) Mundy of Ireland; four sisters, Mary (John) McMahand of Arkansas, Leona (Donald) Johnson of Deer Park, Texas, Mildred (Cletus) Merkel of Jasper and Anna (Harold) Smith of Owensboro, KY; by twelve grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., E.S.T., on Thursday, January 19, 2017, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg; burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery with military rites conducted by the V.F.W. Post #2366 Memorial Detail. The funeral Mass will be celebrated by Reverend Fr. Ryan Hilderbrand.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 2:00-8:00 p.m., on Wednesday; along with a 6:30 p.m. prayer vigil. Condolences may be shared online at: www.nassandson.com
