Back on November 29, 2016, at approx. 2:56 p.m., Memorial EMS, Huntingburg first responders along with the Huntingburg Police Department were called to 217 N. Arjem reference a child that was unresponsive.

Upon arrival, EMS with Police had determined that the 2 ½ month female infant had passed away and the Dubois County Coroner’s office was contacted along with the Huntingburg Police Detective, Sergeant Christian L. Gogel.

Detective Sgt. Gogel had also contacted the Dubois County Department of Child Services. This is when the investigation started into the death of the 2 ½ month old female, who was being watched by Rachelle N. Childree at her residence.

Through the next couple of weeks Detective Sergeant Gogel had further investigated this incident and took his findings to the Dubois County Prosecutors office. They had determined that a warrant for the arrest of Rachelle N. Childree was needed and filed it through the Dubois County Circuit Court.

The Dubois County Circuit Court granted the Warrant for the arrest of Rachelle N. Childree, on the 2nd day of February, 2017, for charges of Neglect of a Dependent Causing Death a Level 1 Felony.

The Huntingburg Police Officers along with HPD Detective Christian Gogel had served that warrant on Rachelle N. Childree, at her residence, on Thursday, February 2nd, at approx. 4:10 p.m.

Childree was taken into custody without incident and lodged in the Dubois County Security Center and is being held on a $20,000 bond.
