On Saturday, April 15, 2017, at approximately 8:45 am, Officer Tyler Stivers and Assistant Chief Ronnie Bowman were dispatched to the IGA grocery store located at 312 E. 12th Street in reference to a male passed out on a bench holding a pill bottle.

Officer Stivers arrived and located the male he recognized as Lance Camplin, 33 years old of Huntingburg, slumped over the bench. After making sure Camplin was breathing, Officer Stivers tried to wake Camplin up numerous times by shouting his name and shaking him. While attending to Camplin, Officer Stivers observed an open pill bottle on the bench and a small baggie with a white crystal substance in it in the palm of Camplin’s hand. That substance later field tested positive for methamphetamine.

Camplin finally woke up, appearing confused. Officer Stivers advised Camplin several times to stand up and place his hands behind his back. While handcuffing Camplin, several small red pills fell to the ground. During a pat down, a marijuana smoking pipe was located in Camplin’s pocket. A small jewelry box was found on his person with several rings inside of it. Further investigation found those rings to have been stolen.

Assistant Chief Bowman and Deputy Jesus Monarrez of the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department arrived on scene and collected the pills and other items located around the bench. Camplin was then placed under arrest and transported to the Huntingburg Police Department for processing and then to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department for lodging. Camplin was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Paraphernalia, and Theft.
