Jerome H. Knies, age 85 of Celestine, IN, passed away Tuesday afternoon, May 23, 2017 due to injuries sustained in a farming accident.

Jerome was born in Celestine Indiana on September 30, 1931 to Bernard J. and Albertha (Heldman) Knies. He married Bernice Kluesner on September 4, 1954 in St. Peter Celestine Catholic Church.

Jerome was a lifelong farmer in the Celestine area, and also worked for Jasper Woodworking.

He was a member of St. Isidore Parish – St. Celestine Campus, and was a lifetime member of the Celestine Community Club.

He was in the U.S. Army National Guard.

He enjoyed hunting, playing sheephead, farming, and being in the outdoors.

Surviving is his wife, Bernice Knies of Celestine, three daughters, Pam Spencer and husband Tom of Birdseye, Iris Gadlage and husband Bernie of Celestine, Jill Thompson and husband Jamie of Jasper, four sons, Brian Knies and companion Carla of Celestine, Christopher Knies and companion Rhonda of Dubois , Jerry Knies and wife Holly of Celestine and John Knies and wife Maria of West Monroe, Louisiana, fourteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren, three sisters, Rosetta Hasenour, Connie Schroering, Sharon Burger and husband Jerry, all of Jasper, seven brothers, Dennis Knies, and Jim and wife Bonnie, both of St. Anthony, Albert Knies and wife Cyrilla of Huntingburg, Virgil Knies and wife Frances, Bernard Knies and wife Diane, and Randall Knies and wife Janice all of Celestine, Paul Knies and wife Carol, and Perry Knies and wife Jane both of Jasper.

Preceding him in death were two brothers, Ernest and Vernon Knies, two brother-in-laws, Delmar Schroering and Tony Hasenour and one sister-in-law, Ruth Knies.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Jerome H. Knies will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 26, 2017 at St. Celestine Catholic Church in Celestine, IN, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

A visitation will be held from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 25th at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. The St. Isidore Parish will pray the rosary at 1:45 p.m.
