William R. “Bill” Sherman, Sr., age 77, of Huntingburg, passed away at 7:30 p.m., on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, in the emergency room of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

He was born November 12, 1939, in Holland, Indiana to Herman Sherman, Sr. and Josephine (Lindauer) Sherman. Bill was a 1957 graduate of Holland High School and was united in marriage to Margaret Louise Jeffery on November 21, 1959, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg. Bill worked for D.M.I. in Huntingburg and Dothan, Alabama; worked for Styline; and retired from Dubois Wood where he was a supervisor for many years. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg; made the choice to become a tissue donor to help others; and enjoyed motorcycle riding, fishing, spending time with his dogs, “Huck” and “Butter”, and visits with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Bill is survived by one son, William R. (Rita) Sherman, Jr. of Huntingburg; three daughters, Melanie (Dennis) Bernardi of Huntingburg, Charlotte (Ernie) Mesa of Missouri and Jane (David) Dooley of Beaumont, Texas; four brothers, Eugene (Linda) Sherman of Huntingburg, Herman (Donna) Sherman, Jr. of Gentryville, Oscar (Karen) Sherman of Huntingburg and Nick (Connie) Sherman of Huntingburg; four sisters, Mary (George) Jochum of Huntingburg, Cecilia (Melvin) Betz of Celestine, Suzanne (Dave) Schipp of Huntingburg and Betty (Charles) Beren of Dale; by four grandchildren, two step grandchildren, six great grandchildren, eight step great grandchildren and two step great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Louise Sherman, who died March 12, 2011; five brothers, Felix, Leo, Charles, James and Joseph Sherman; and one granddaughter, Kristi Bernardi.

Funeral services for William “Bill” Sherman, Sr. will be held at 10:00 a.m., E.D.T., on Saturday, May 27, 2017, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 2:00-8:00 p.m., on Friday. A parish rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. Condolences may be shared online at: www.nassandson.com
