One person received minor injures then was cited in a 4 vehicle chain reaction accident early this morning southeast of Jasper.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says just after 6 am today (Tuesday, June 20) vehicles driven by 49-year old Osmaro Ramos, 25-year old Cody Staup, 29-year old Andrew Young and 33-year old Michael Christmas all of Jasper were all southbound on State Road 162 just north of County Road 350 South when Christmas told deputies he had signaled in order to make a turn off the highway and into a business on the east side of the road but had to wait for traffic.

Christmas told authorities that he noticed vehicles driven by Young and Staup come to a stop behind them but that his pickup truck was then rear ended.

Ramos told deputies that vehicles in front of him had come to a quick stop and he could not slow his passenger car in time or avoid them due to oncoming traffic in the northbound lane.

Ramos’ car struck Staup’s car triggering the chain reaction of which Straup struck Young who in return rear ended Christmas’ pickup.

Ramos who complained of chest pain was ticketed for following too closely. Both he and Staup’s vehicles were a total loss. Young’s passenger car sustained 14-hundred dollars damage. No damage was reported to Christmas’ truck.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by the St. Anthony Fire Department and Memorial Hospital EMS
