A faulty rear tire is believed to have helped trigger a two vehicle accident this morning along Highway 56 just west of the Ireland community that injured both drivers.
The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says around a quarter after 8 this morning 25-year old Jennifer Fischer of Jasper was traveling west on Highway 56 about two miles west of Ireland when deputies say for an unknown reason, her passenger car went left of center and swerved causing her car to cross the centerline and into the path of an eastbound passenger car driven by 34-year old Kelly Wiscaver of Otwell.
Deputies say Wiscaver’s car came to a stop while Fischer’s continued and slid across the road on the northside and into a yard.
Witnesses told deputies they saw Fischer’s vehicle and believed that there was a problem with the rear tire causing it to swerve out of control before the crash.
The sheriff’s department says Fischer’s rear left tire was found flat on the northside of State Road 56 about 25 yards from the road in a garden.
Fischer complained of pain to her left hip while Wiscaver had pain to her right knee. They were both taken to Memorial Hospital in Jasper for treatment.
Both vehicles were totaled in the crash, no charges were filed.
State Road 56 was closed for more than 45 minutes as a result of the accident.
The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Ireland Fire Department and Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services.
