Karen A. “Matty” Murray, age 69, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, June 23, 2017, at Deaconess Gateway in Evansville, Indiana.

Matty was born in Jasper, Indiana on November 5, 1947 to Ernie and Jean (Gootee) Matheis.  She  married Harold Murray on March 31, 1973 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana.

She was a 1965 graduate of Jasper High School.  She then received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Education from Indiana State University.

She was a teacher at Holy Family School in Jasper, and retired from there after teaching for 35 years.

Matty was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper.

She enjoyed painting, crossword puzzles, and spending time with family and friends.  She was also a dog lover.

Surviving are her husband, Harold Murray, Jasper, IN, two sons, Kevin Murray, Charlotte, NC, Luke Murray,  Otwell, IN, one granddaughter,  Casie Murray,  Charlotte, NC, three sisters, Chris Marple, and her husband, Steve, Armona, CA, Cathne Brown, Evansville, IN, and Lori Kunkel, and her husband, Dave, Jasper, IN, two brothers, Larry Matheis, and his wife, June, Newburgh, IN,  and Pat Matheis, and his wife, Debbie, Jasper, IN, and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her parents and one nephew, her godchild, Brian Matheis.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Karen A. “Matty” Murray will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.

A visitation will be held from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, Indiana.  A rosary will be prayed by St. Joseph’s  Parish at 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church or to the Dubois County Humane Society.
