Ruth B. Knies, age 86 of Celestine, IN, passed away at 8:35 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at home surrounded by family and friends.

Ruth was born in Ireland, Indiana on August 26, 1930 to Joseph and Helena (Dupps) Jerger. She married Oscar Knies on April 22, 1952 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland. He preceded her in death on January 15, 1999.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. Isidore Parish – St. Celestine Campus, and their St. Anne’s Sodality.

She was a member of the Celestine Community Club.

She was a woman of very strong faith and enjoyed praying the rosary, playing cards, reading, baking, and spending time with her family and friends.

Surviving are two daughters, Caregiver Mary Knies , Celestine, Dr. Gina Riecker (Bryan) Celestine, five sons, Duane Knies (Tami ), Roger Knies (Deb ), Kevin Knies (Sherrie), Dale Knies (Robin) and Kelly Knies (Jody) all of Celestine, twenty six Grandchildren, five Great Grandchildren, and one brother Joe Jerger (Mary Ann), of Ireland.

Preceding her in death beside her husband were five sisters, Alice Hochgesang, Joan Glendening, Helen Jerger, Mary Ann Haas, Mildred Beckman, and three brothers, Harold, John, and Charles Jerger.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Ruth B. Knies will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 14, 2017 at St. Celestine Catholic Church in Celestine, IN, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

A visitation will be held from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. The St. Isidore Parish St. Anne’s Sodality will pray the rosary at 1:45 p.m.
