Leonard B. Gehlhausen Sr., 83 of Ferdinand died Wednesday August 23rd at his home. Leonard was born May 22, 1934 in Dubois, In. to Lawrence & Henrietta (Nonte) Gehlhausen. He married Linda L. Jones on May 3, 1957 in Otwell, she passed away November 3, 1990. He married Ida M. Sander (Fetter) on December 26, 1994 in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church, She passed away February 28, 2017.

Leonard served in the United States Air Force for 22 ½ years and served in Viet-Nam from 1970 – 1971. He retired from Memorial Hospital & Health Care Center in 1996 as an Electronics Technician. He was a member of Christ the King Parish, St. Ferdinand Church, Ferdinand American Legion Post 124, The Ferdinand V.F.W., National Rifle Association, and the North American Hunting Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, genealogy, water skiing in his younger years, and being with his family & friends.

Surviving are two daughters, Jody (Dale) Kessinger of Evanston and Christy Beadles of Huntingburg. One son, Leonard B. (Yvette) Gehlhausen Jr. of Huntingburg. Two step-sons, Keith (Terra) Sander of Lake Helmerich Village, and Lieutenant Col. Michael (Kathy) Sander of Langley Air Force Base, VA. 19 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. One sister, Dolores Daugherity of Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Maurice and Ronald Gehlhausen and one sister Pauline Hall.

Funeral services for Leonard Gehlhausen Sr. will be held 10:00 AM on Monday August 28th in Saint Ferdinand Church, burial with military honors following in Walnut Grove Cemetery near Velpen. Military graveside services will be provided by Ferdinand American Legion Post 124. Friends may call at the Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand from 2 to 8:00 PM Sunday and from 7 to 9:30 AM Monday.
