Dorothy “Sis” Bleemel, age 87, of Jasper, passed away at 2:30 a.m.  on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at home.

Dorothy was born in Jasper, Indiana, on February 15, 1930, to Matthew and Lillian (Neuhoff) Wilz.  She married Elmer Joe Bleemel on May 6, 1951, in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper.  He preceded her in death on November 7, 1988.

She retired from the Ireland Co-Op, where she had worked for several years.

She was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church, where she was a charter member.  She was also a member of the Ladies Sodality and the Golden Girls Class of 1948, was a Girl Scout Leader, volunteered at Dubois County Community Meals and at the Jasper Community Arts Center.

She was an avid card player and enjoyed travelling and spending time with her family.

Surviving are four daughters, Sandy Fendel (Lee), Bristow, IN, Becky Steffe (Doug), Sharps Chapel, TN, Jane Persohn (Denny), Jasper, IN, and Ann Brosmer (Tim), Jasper, IN, seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and one step great grandchild.

Preceding her in death are one son, Jimmy Bleemel and one sister, Evelyn “Toots” Hopf.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy “Sis” Bleemel will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, September 22, 2017 at Precious Blood Catholic Church, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the noon service time on Friday at the church.
