Geneva Z Himsel, age 101, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 10 pm on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at St Charles Health Campus in Jasper, Indiana. Geneva was born in Saunemin, Illinois on October 24, 1915 to Earl and Alta Susan (Yates) Brittain.

She married Luther Himsel on August 29, 1936 in Holland Indiana. He proceeded her in death on April 24, 1979. Geneva was a homemaker early on then later went on to work in retail at 3-D, Watsons and Peebles where she received commendations for her outstanding service to her customers. She loved her work. She also served several years as Vice County Chairman of the Republican party. Geneva loved cooking, traveling and gardening. All who knew her know how much she enjoyed her beautiful flowers. But her most beloved was spending time with her children, grandchildren and her many good friends. She was a member of St John’s Lutheran Church in Boone Twp. She also enjoyed visiting Shiloh Church in Ireland, as a guest.

Surviving is a daughter, Judy (Charles) Kerkhove, Greenwood, In and three sons, Ronald (Connie) Himsel, Jasper, In. Tom (Brenda) Himsel, Greenwood, In and Jerry (Bev) Himsel, Jasper, In.. She was blessed with 16 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Himsel, brother, Glen Brittain and infant sister, Alberta Brittain.

Funeral services for Geneva Z. Himsel will be held on Wednesday, October 18 at 11:00 a.m. at St John’s Lutheran Church, Boone Twp with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Pastor Catherine Burnett and Pastor Paul Alvey will officiate.

Visitations will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper and again at 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., one hour prior to the funeral service, at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to St John’s Lutheran Church or a favorite charity.
