The Christkindlmarkt is set to take place at various locations across the town of Ferdinand this Friday, Saturday and Sunday November 17th through the 19th.

Every year, thousands of people pour into Ferdinand to visit the unique Christkindlmarkt Heritage Markets, voted as one of the Top 100 Events in North America by the American Bus Association in 2012.

In Germany, Christmas wares and gifts are sold in the festival-style setting of Christkindlmarkt. The custom began in the 14th century and continues today in the charming “Bavarian” village of Ferdinand, the only town in the world named after Ferdinand I of Austria.

These markets, which are the result of a concept beginning in 14th century Germany, feature lavishly decorated booths spilling over with Christmas wares, antiques, and gifts of exemplary quality, delicious regional food, live entertainment, a free concert, free tours, and so much more.

The Christkindlmarkt operates at six sites: the Ferdinand Community Center, Tri-County YMCA, the Ferdinand American Legion, Forest Park High School Practice Gym, Jr. High Gym, & Cafeteria, and their newest sites, the Monastery Event Hall & Ferdinand Elementary Gym.

Event highlights include:

The opening ceremonies with the appearance of the Christkindl Angel along with the Christkindlmarkt Eve Dinner with Musical Entertainment Friday November 17th.

Other highlighted events Saturday through Sunday include the Marionette Theater,
a Concert by the Celebration Singers,
Tours of the Monastery & Lights on the Grotto.

A free Shuttle Service will be provided between Markt Sites.

Glockenspiel Performances & Live Entertainment,

Mass with German Hymns

and the Stillpoint/Sisters of St. Benedict Concert.
