Yesterday, at approximately 10:30 AM an officer with the Jasper Police Department, along with the police departments K9, conducted a traffic stop on with a Dodge Spirit near the intersection of 25th St. and Cathy Lane. The vehicle had been paced at 34 mph in a 25 mph speed zone as well as had false and fictitious plates on it. During the course of the traffic stop indicators that noticed of the driver, Darryl Russel of Jasper, led officers to believe he was under the influence of methamphetamine. Also, a passenger in the vehicle, Nicole Beavers of Paoli, was found to wanted on three separate warrants out of Orange County. While taking Ms. Beavers into custody she was found to be in possession of approximately 1.5 grams of methamphetamine. Ms. Beavers also admitted to concealing a syringe in her pants and that was turned over to officers as well.

During the course of the stop it was learned that Russell was staying at the Camelot Inn. Russell admitted to having more methamphetamine at that location. Russell gave officers consent to search his room and upon doing so another 1/2 gram of methamphetamine was located, more syringes, marijuana, and paraphernalia. Both subjects were transported to the Jasper Police Department and then later taken to the Dubois County Security Center where they were lodged on multiple charges.

Darryl Russel was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Syringe, maintaining a common nuisance, possession of paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. Nicole Beavers was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Syringe, and maintaining a common nuisance. Her Orange County warrants were of Felony Theft, a Class A misdemeanor count of Battery, and a Class B misdemeanor count of Theft.
