Dennis A. Schaeffer, 79, of Huntingburg, passed away, Thursday, January 11th at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper.

Dennis was born February 15, 1938 in Ferdinand to Albert and Elizabeth (Krampe) Schaeffer. He married Louise E. Burger on November 22, 1962 in Jasper. Dennis was a retired owner of Key Associates Realty and Auction Company. He was a former school bus driver and an appraiser. Dennis was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church and served on its Parish Council. He was a former township advisor for Cass Township. Dennis also served on the 4H Council and was a member of St. Henry Community Club. He served on the St. Henry Quasquicentennial Committee. Dennis was a member of Ferdinand American Legion Post 124, where he was a former Commander. He belonged to Huntingburg VFW #2366 and Huntingburg Eagles #0758.

He was a passionate card player, especially Euchre and Sheephead. Dennis is survived by his wife, Louise “Lou” Schaeffer; one son, Nick (Cassie) Schaeffer of St. Henry; two daughters, Shelly (Ed) Boeglin of Huntingburg and Melissa (Kevin) Mehringer of Jasper; three sisters, Anna Mae Pund, Rita (Jim) Oser and Alberta Oeding all of Ferdinand; seven grandchildren.

Dennis was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Schaeffer.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:00 AM in St. Henry Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church Cemetery. Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 will provide Military Graveside Rights. Visitation will be Friday from 3-8:00 PM at St. Henry Catholic Church and again on Saturday at the church from 9:00 AM until mass. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Henry Church or St. Henry Fire Department.
