Janice “Jan” Mehne, age 70, of Portersville, Indiana, passed away at 9:51 a.m. Friday, January 12, 2018, at St. Vincent’s Hospital at Evansville, Indiana.

She was born on March 9, 1947, at Jasper, Indiana to Mathew and Helen (Wehr) Eckert.  She married Gene Mehne on January 2, 1993 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Haysville, Indiana.

Jan was a sales representative and tech support for Cook Urological in Chicago and retired from Sten’s Corporation in Jasper. Previous to that she was a registered X-ray technician for over 18 years for Welborn Baptist Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

She was a 1965 graduate of Jasper High School and a graduate of St. John Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri for X-ray technology.

Jan was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, served as a Stephen Minister, and volunteered for many years delivering community meals on Thanksgiving Day. She was a member of St. Anne Society.  Jan did volunteer work for Crisis Connection and was a member of Psi Iota Xi Sorority.

15 nieces and nephews and 33 great nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her father Mathew Eckert and brother Edward J. Eckert.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 17, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. Rosary will be held at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday by the St. Anne Society at the funeral home.
