Almeda Wilmes, 92 of Ferdinand passed away Monday February 26th surrounded by her family at Brookside Village in Jasper. She was born November 18, 1925 in Ferdinand to Simon and Catherina (Rahman) Schum. She was united in marriage to Francis Herman Wilmes on June 24, 1952 in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on January 15, 2011.

Almeda was a lifelong member of Christ the King Parish, St. Ferdinand Church and its St.Ann’s Sodality. She was a homemaker and helped her family on the farm. She enjoyed cross stitch, cooking, gardening, canning and caring for her family.

Surviving are daughters, Linda Epple (Ron) of Indianapolis and Diane Fischer (Jeff) of Santa Claus. Sons, Ralph (Gina) Wilmes and Bill Wilmes both of Ferdinand, daughter-in-law, Cheryl Wilmes of Ferdinand. 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. One sister, Helen Weyer of Ferdinand. She was also preceded in death by a son, Larry Wilmes, brother, Victor E. Schum, sisters, Cornelia Pund and Regina Schum in infancy.

Funeral services for Almeda Wilmes will be held at 10:00 AM Friday March 2nd in Christ the King Parish, St. Ferdinand Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8:00 PM Thursday and from 7 to 9:30 Friday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Online condolences may be shared at www.becherfuneralhome.com
