The Jasper Farmers’ Market will begin the 2018 season on Saturday, May 26th on the green North of the Jasper Train Depot with new hours, 8am to 12pm.

Our market began its mission in 2005 with the purpose to provide a source of income to local producers, fresh and local produce to customers, and a gathering place to create and develop a greater sense of community.  This would not be possible without the support and sponsorship of the Greater Downtown Jasper Business Association, the City of Jasper, and the Jasper Chamber of Commerce.

We welcome new vendors to participate any Saturday.

This year we have some market t-shirts introducing the motto “Enjoy Food Less Traveled” which reflects our mission and purpose for the market.

The Market Bucks program is also coming back this year.

Gift Bucks are a green $1 token that can be used to purchase any item or may be given by vendors to frequent shoppers. Some local business have also expressed an interest in accepting them to support the market.

Fresh Bucks are orange $2 tokens that may only be used for specific food purchases at the market with the goal of reducing food insecurity and increasing options for households enrolled in SNAP or WIC. This program was made possible with a grant from the Dubois County Community Foundation. We hope future donations and grants will sustain Fresh Bucks throughout the years. More details can be found online.

As is our tradition, the Jasper Farmers’ Market is a producer-only market that requires vendors or their family to grow what is being sold. Our shoppers pride themselves in knowing their produce is locally grown.

Soon produce vendors will offer strawberries, radishes, peas, beets, rhubarb and other items available in early spring. Other food vendors will have eggs, beef, jellies, and pies for sell.  They also offer pretzels, fresh breads, cinnamon rolls, and muffins.  New vendor, Fritz BBQ, will be offering hot food at the market.

The Jasper Farmers’ Market also welcomes local artisans.  They bring clothing, lawn decor, soaps, paper crafts, jewelry, and more.  We even have a frequent face painter.

Student and youth organizations also have the opportunity to participate in the market by selling items they may not grow or bake, personally, but are responsible for selling to fund raise.

The market always strives to have something special happening throughout the season for customers and their children.  We look forward to hosting more Taste of the Market events, local chefs, and musicians. Plus, the first Saturday of every month will continue to be the youth market where children 12 and under can participate free of charge.

The Jasper Farmers’ Market relies on the honesty and integrity of each vendor to sustain the market’s spirit and become a good neighbor.  We look forward to seeing you there.
