The leader of the Southeast Dubois School Corporation has decided to call it a career in education.

During last night’s regular monthly meeting, Southeast Dubois school Superintendent Rick Allen informed board members his decision to retire from the corporation after 36 years as a teacher and administrator  spent in the Southeast Dubois district.

A native of Greenfield and a 1979 graduate of Mount Vernon High School in Fortville, Allen earned a degree in Agricultural Education from Purdue University West Lafayette in 1983 and a masters in Public Administration and Secondary Education from Indiana University Bloomington in 1990. He then earned his certificate as Education Specialist and ED Leadership & Foundations from Indiana State University in Terre Haute in 2002.

Allen began his journey as an educator in 1983, teaching Agriculture at Forest Park Jr/Sr High School.

In 1992, he was named Assistant Principal at Forest Park and in 2004, was named Assistant Superintendent working with transportation and curriculum throughout the school district. Finally, Allen was named Superintendent in January 2011.

Allen’s retirement will not take effect till next summer. He says his career as an educator and administrator has been exciting and rewarding and Looks forward to helping the corporation land his successor…

 

 

Several changes and improvements have taken place, both in facilities and in curriculum, in and around the corporation under Allen’s watch in recent years and more is on the way.

Allen says the upcoming 2018-19 school year will perhaps be the most challenging and exciting of them all….

 

 

Allen’s retirement will officially take effect June 30th of next year giving the school board the opportunity to spend extra time to hire a replacement which Allen hopes to groom and prepare before leaving his post next summer.
