Each year, the Indiana Broadcasters Association recognizes its tv and radio members that strengthen their communities through programs and efforts with Cardinal Community Service Awards.

Organized by the congressional district and named after the Indiana state bird – the cardinal – the awards are a symbol of dedicated service by our membership.

Monday evening in Evansville, Dubois County Broadcasting Stations, 101 COUNTRY WBDC, 103-3 THE FIX WAXL, AND 18 WJTS TV were among those recognized for the outstanding local work as recipients of a 2018 Cardinal Community Service Award.

WBDC/WAXL/WJTS General Manager Bill Potter is proud of the commitment the stations have to the communities we serve.

Both WBDC and WAXL were honored for their severe weather awareness promotion. WBDC and WAXL partner with area schools and provide tornado safety tip cards to children.

Last year, the stations distributed almost 14,000 cards to schools in 6 Indiana counties in the area. this campaign coincides with severe weather awareness month, during which the stations air hundreds of psa’s promoting tornado safety.

18 WJTS-TV received the award for it’s local produced program…WJTS IN FORM. WJTS TV 18 records a nightly 10-minute segment that is part of the local news aired at 5:30 in the morning and at 6, 7:30 and 9:30pm in the evening entitled “WJTS IN FORM”.

It is an interview program highlighting local events, community leaders, or special programs that have a positive impact on life in WJTS viewing area following WJTS-TV’S branding of “Local People Watching Local People.”
