The Patoka Lake Clean-Up saw a record breaking turn out this weekend. During the 12th annual event, businesses, organizations, high school students, and scout groups gathered Saturday morning to beautify the shoreline, and at the same time, ensure clean drinking water for more than 100 thousand residents in Southern Indiana. Carla Striegel-Winner, Director of the Dubois County Solid Waste District, was ecstatic about the public’s involvement.
A total of 201 volunteers and 37 helpers worked to remove 22 hundred pounds of trash, 8 tires, and 600 pounds of recyclables like aluminum. That’s a total of over 3000 pounds, and better yet- this years group accomplished that in under 3 hours! Greg Carpenter, project manager with the Army Corp of Engineers at Patoka Dam, discussed the importance of this event.
