A man who was apparently impaired and reportedly disrespectful and uncooperative with an officer Thursday evening was placed under arrest on a number of charges.

Around 8 o’clock last night, an officer with the Jasper Police Department observed 38-year old Christopher Ham of Jasper stumbling in the middle of the roadway on Dewey Street near East 14th Street.

The officer reportedly asked Ham to use the sidewalk and not walk in the middle of the road several times, however, Ham allegedly became extremely belligerent and aggressive towards the officer. Ham was detained due to his aggressive behavior.

The officer administered a portable breath test that measured Ham’s blood alcohol content at .19%. Police say Ham yelled obscenities loud enough that a group of people near a residence a block away at 1300 Dewey Street could hear and directed their attention towards Ham and officers.

Police say while attempting to place Ham inside the officer’s vehicle, he resisted and stated that he was going to start a fight with them. Officers used pain compliance on Ham to restrain him in the vehicle.

Ham was taken into custody and transported to the Dubois County Security Center where he was booked for Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct, and Public Intoxication.
