The response of authorities into a complaint in an unrelated matter in Huntingburg lead police on a foot chase causing the delay of the release of students from local schools.

Thursday afternoon deputies with the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department and officers with the Huntingburg Police Department went to a residence located along the 500 block of Geiger Street in Huntingburg in reference to an illegal dumping complaint.

While conducting their investigation and speaking with individuals at the residence, officers identified 30-year old Josh Fuller of Valparaiso, who police say was wanted on an arrest warrant out of Porter County for a Level 4 felony count of child molestation.

When the officers attempted to detain Fuller, he allegedly fled out the back of the residence and headed southwest.

A foot pursuit ensued consisting of multiple officers from different agencies.

Authorities say Fuller evaded officers for a short time, but say he was later located hiding inside a 55 gallon barrel behind  the 200 block of East 4th Street.

They say Fuller resisted officers’ commands and the Huntingburg K-9 was deployed to assist with the apprehension.

Fuller was then removed from the barrel and was taken into custody. He was treated at the scene by Memorial Hospital EMS for minor injuries caused by the police K-9 before he was taken to and booked into the Dubois County Security Center in Jasper for resisting law enforcement and for the warrant out of Porter County.

The foot pursuit forced authorities to contact officials with the Southwest Dubois County School Corporation and request the delay of students release until the situation was resolved.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department, the Huntingburg Police Department, Jasper Police, Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services along with First Responders with the Huntingburg Volunteer Fire Department all took part in resolving the incident.
