Last night, members of the Jasper Public Library Board met to discuss multiple items, including the process of moving forward with plans about the upcoming Thyen/Clark Jasper Cultural Center.

The board went through with the execution and approval of the lease for the Cultural Center which will be named in honor of Jim and Pat Thyen. The board and city decided that, when funding the project of building the Cultural Center, lease funding was the way to go.

The Jasper City and Library LLC are moving forward over the next few years transferring ownership of the Library Annex over to the LLC as well as to the Cultural Center. When construction of the Cultural Center is completed, the Annex’s ownership will be transferred back to the Library.

Library Director Christine Golden says the big topic of the night was how the board will bid the construction of the Cultural Center…..

A big concern surrounding the project is the possibility of inclement weather. With Indiana known for typically having strange and unpredictable weather patterns, Golden notes that construction may or may not start as early as planned, but what they did take Thursday evening is one big step towards finishing the project.

The board definitely is looking forward to the future with the new Cultural Center coming to fruition. Other items covered in yesterday’s meeting were the approval of the 2019 Budget and the approval of the a transfer of $10,000 over to the rainy day fund.
