A Perry County man was placed under arrest on a number of charges including OWI following the report of an erratic driver Sunday evening in Ferdinand.

Around a quarter after 8 last night, an officer with the Ferdinand Police Department received a report of an erratic driver they say was in a red pickup headed south along State Road 162 towards 9th Street.

Police say the driver of the pickup 53-year old Leroy Paulin of Bristow turned west onto 9th Street and entered a trailer park.

After locating the truck, the officer observed the vehicle exit the park and head east on 9th. They say when he left the park, Paulin failed to stop before entering 9th Street crossed the center line and ran off the roadway.

Police say Paulin corrected then continued east on 9th Street. The officer was able to get behind Paulin and conduct a traffic stop at Missouri and 9th Streets.

Once police made contact with Paulin they noticed the smell of an alcoholic beverage.

Paulin was placed under arrest and was taken to and booked into the Dubois County Security Center in Jasper for Operating While Intoxicated Endangering a Person, Failure to Stop before driving onto sidewalk when emerging from an alley or driveway and driving left of center.
