Old National Bank recently completed its fourth annual Tools for Schools grant promotion, a company-wide campaign created to help get the school year started right for countless students in need in local communities.

Among those receiving grants is Pine Ridge Elementary School in Birdseye who picked up a grant of $6,000.

A check presentation was held Wednesday afternoon in the gymnasium of Pine Ridge Elementary.

Principal Ryan Haas says given Pine Ridge’s size of enrollment compared to others, the honor of receiving a gift of this caliber is special to the school and all involved.

The Tools for Schools grant promotion was conducted during the month of September. The public was encouraged to visit Old National’s Facebook page to vote for a school to receive a Tools for Schools grant.

A voting page was created for each of Old National’s regions throughout Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin with participating school districts pre-populated to make the voting collection easy.

Pine Ridge was selected in the Jasper Region

Tom Krodel is President of Old National’s Jasper Region. He says awarding the grant is pleasing due to the amount of pride put forth into the school and community.

112,022 votes were cast for nearly 1,180 schools in five different states. Grants for $1,000 are now being awarded to the schools with the most votes in each region. The $6,000 grant going to Pine Ridge Elementary School was the result of receiving the most votes overall.
