Local and state government as well as the community of Rockport gathered at the Spencer County Courthouse yesterday afternoon for the Spencer County Bicentennial Closing Ceremony and Lincoln on the Bench Ribbon Cutting. Members of Think Lincoln, along with Lt Governor Suzanne Crouch and even Senator Elect Mike Braun of Jasper spoke to the crowd about the importance that former president Abraham Lincoln had on the area of Spencer County and the rest of the United States.

Lt. Governor Crouch explained that Abraham Lincoln had the full spirit that Hoosiers demonstrate everyday and that his attitude speaks to the area and communities surrounding.

Crouch also spoke on what a commemoration like this means for the community of Spencer County.

Senator Elect Braun spoke on how he wants to lead Indiana with as much passion as Lincoln lead the United States. He also thanked those who followed him during his campaign and hopes to make a difference for Indiana.

Along with Braun and Crouch speaking, the courthouse was honored with a large plaque in honor of Spencer County and a smaller plaque honoring the Lincoln on the Bench statue. Also, an actor portraying the former president spoke about the History of his time at in Spencer County and recited the entirety of the Gettysburg Address, which the Lincoln on the Bench Statue symbolizes as it depicts the president reflecting on his speech, one that would go down in history.

This event concluded the Spencer County Bicentennial Celebration. Spencer County would like to thank everyone for being a part of the 200 legacy, and looks forward to the next 200 years of growing and moving forward.
