Hubert B. “Hubie” Merkley, age 88 of Portersville, IN, passed away at 1:55 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2019 at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper, IN.

Hubie was born in Siberia, Indiana on June 21, 1930 to Frank B and Laura K (Schepers) Merkley.  He had two marriages.  He married Margaret Ann Schenetzke on June 26, 1952.  She preceded him in death on April 22, 1992.  He then married Clara E. Rodenhouse on September 26, 1992.  She preceded him in death on January 7, 2017.

He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran who served in the Korean War, and was a member of the Jasper American Legion Post #147 and the VFW Post #673.

Hubie retired from J.H. Rudolph Asphalt Company after 28 years of service.

He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and taking his dog out for a drive.

Surviving, are four daughters, Pam Merkley, Celestine, Sara Bailey, Huntingburg, JoAnn Oser (Fiancé Ron Uppencamp), Huntingburg, and Nancy Merkley, St. Anthony,  four sons, Randy Merkley (Kathy), St. Anthony, Dennis Merkley, Huntingburg, Darrell Merkley, Birdseye, and Hubert Merkley Jr., five step children, Diana Seger, Pat Wininger, Linda Fuhrman, Larry Bouillon, and Gary Bouillon, twelve grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, one sister, Linda Atkins, Birdseye.

Preceding him in death besides his two wives was one son, Roger Allen Merkley, and one sister, Hilda Schepers.

Funeral services for Hubert B. “Hubie” Merkley will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 15, 2019 at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper, IN.  The VFW Post #673 will conduct military gravesite rites.

A visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper.
