Randall L. Fischer, 60, of Ferdinand, passed away at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand on Friday, June 21, 2019. He was born February 8, 1959 to Myron R. and Bernice E. (Begle) Fischer. Randy was a long time employee of Masterbrand in Ferdinand and retired due to illness. He was a 1981 graduate of Indiana State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism. Following in his father’s footsteps, he was a professional outdoor writer with several articles published in popular outdoor magazines. For a period of time, Randy had a column, “Roaming with Randy” that was published in the Ferdinand News. It featured outdoor hunting and fishing activities. He enjoyed bowling and was an avid deer hunter and fisherman. Randy was an enthusiastic fan of Forest Park Sports and the St. Louis Cardinals. Randy was the recipient of the Karen Bell Caring Award presented by Scenic Hills in 2018 as he was a true inspiration to the residents. His supportive and caring attitude, comforting ways, and encouraging words will be missed by many. Randy is survived by his mother, Bernice Fischer of Ferdinand; two brothers, Glenn Fischer of St. Meinrad and Stephen (DaNita) Fischer of Jackson, MO; two sisters, Sabrina (Deane) Verkamp of Ferdinand and Corine Kluemper of Evansville; five nieces, one nephew, two great-nieces, one great nephew, five step-nephews and one great step-nephew. Randy was preceded in death by a sister, Bernadette Fischer, a brother Chad Fischer and his father Myron R. Fischer. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:00 AM in St. Ferdinand Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8:00 PM at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand and also Wednesday from 7-9:30 AM at the funeral home. Online condolences may be shared at www.becherfuneralhome.com
