Bernadine H. Schnell, age 91 of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 6:50 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper, Indiana.
 
Bernadine was born on March 3, 1928 in Jasper, Indiana to Edward and Catherine (Kluemper) Hopf.  She married Hilbert H. Schnell on May 7, 1949 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.  He preceded her in death on April 5, 2015.
 
She graduated Salutatorian  from the one room Breitweiser School  near Dubois.
 
She was a homemaker but in her younger years she worked for Kenrads in Huntingburg making electrical tubes for radios and radar systems, and also worked for Jasper Wood Products where she made parts for aircraft glider wing, both for the war effort.  
 
Bernadine was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper and their Blessed Virgin Sodality.   She enjoyed embroidering for the Holy Family quilts, baking for church events, and participating in the Holy Family grandparent program. 
 
She  enjoyed gardening, spending time and holding hands with her husband Hilbert, and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
 
Surviving are two sons, James  and Larry Schnell of Jasper, three daughters, Jan Hasenour (Ron), Jasper, Darlene Schreiner (Kent), Jasper, and Cheryl Evans (Chris), Middletown, IN, eleven grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.
 
Preceding her in death beside her husband were two great grandchildren, Caleb Deel and Anne Grace Keller, four sisters, Loretta Burgan, Verena Schroeder, Dorothy Senninger, and Sr. Mary Gabriel Hopf and four brothers, Ambrose Hopf, Fr. Linus Hopf, Harold “Bud” Hopf, and Emil Hopf.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Bernadine H. Schnell will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 27, 2019, at Holy Family Catholic Church, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper. 

A visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, and from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service time at Holy Family Church on Wednesday The Holy Family Blessed Virgin Sodality will pray the rosary at 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church or a favorite charity.
