Authorities have released the names of a man and woman who were involved in a one vehicle accident just southeast of Jasper Tuesday afternoon in which they say was caused by a medical condition suffered by the driver.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says 66-year old Larry Fogleman of Greenwood passed away at Memorial Hospital in Jasper while his wife 62-year old Nancy Fogleman sustained minor abrasions.

Deputies say at around a quarter till 4 yesterday afternoon, Dubois County Communications received a report of a single vehicle accident with entrapment along State Road 162 just north of the Maltersville bridge.

When deputies and Jasper First Responders arrived a short time later, they discovered the Folgeman’s passenger car was off the east side of State Road 162 down a steep embankment and on it’s top in a ditch with the Folgeman’s trapped inside.

Police say Mr. Folgleman was not conscious while Mrs. Fogleman was conscious and alert. Both were extricated from the vehicle by first responders.

Medical attention was rendered to Mr. Fogleman by first responders before he was taken by ambulance to Memorial where he died. Mrs. Fogleman was also taken to Memorial by ambulance for treatment.

The sheriff’s department says Mr. Fogleman was traveling northbound along Hwy 162 when the medical condition apparently caused him to lose control of his car. They say it abruptly went off the east side of 162 down a steep embankment rolling several times before coming to a rest on its top in a ditch.

State Road 162 was shut down for about 40 minutes due to the accident. Traffic was diverted from both the north and southbound directions by Jasper City Police and the Indiana State Police.

Dubois County Sheriff’s deputies were assisted at the scene by Jasper Police, the Indiana State Police and first responders with the Jasper Volunteer Fire Department.
