All of us can think of a teacher who made a profound impact in our education career and life.

District 48 State Senator Mark Messmer of Jasper says great teachers benefit not only Hoosier children but the state as a whole. Messmer says as lawmakers, they work to ensure the best teachers and students stay in Indiana.

The Indiana Commission for Higher Education recently announced the official launch of the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship, which was created after the Indiana General Assembly passed House Enrolled Act 1002.

Messmer says the program creates 200 scholarships for candidates who commit to teaching in Indiana for five years after earning their degrees……

The deadline to apply for this scholarship is Dec. 31st. The application can be found at www.LearnMoreIndiana.org/NextTeacher.

Messmer says legislators overwhelmingly supported this measure because they understand the critical role teachers play in communities across our state. He says not just in Indiana but across the country, they are seeing students choosing not to enter the teaching profession…..
