Lawmakers are gearing up for the 2018 legislative session, which begins in just a few short weeks.

Each year, the Senate welcomes students from across the state to participate in the Senate Page Program.

District 48 State Senator Mark Messmer of Jasper says it is an interactive program and a way for students in grades six through 12 to see their state government at work……

The Senate’s Page Program will run from mid-January through early March, with students beginning their day at 8:30 a.m. and dismissing at 3:30 p.m.

Individual students page on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, and groups serve together on Wednesdays. Friends or siblings who wish to page on the same day should submit their applications together.

Applications can be found at www.IndianaSenateRepublicans.com/page-program. Positions fill up quickly, so interested students in the area are encouraged to apply as soon as they can.

All students must include the parent or legal guardian’s contact information as well as the student’s name, age, grade level and school or home school status.

Messmer says he hopes many local students pursue this great opportunity to learn more about our state government. Participating in this program may even spark an interest in public service.

As always, feel free to contact Messmer’s office directly with your questions and concerns by email at Senator.Messmer@iga.in.gov or by phone at 800-382-9467.
