An Evansville man is facing felony and misdemeanor charges after allegedly fleeing from police during a high-speed pursuit in late June.

On June 28, around 6:40 p.m., Indiana State Police Trooper Widner attempted to stop a black Chrysler 200 on State Road 66 near Libbert Road after observing the driver using a cellphone while driving. The driver, later identified as 29-year-old Sebastian S. Buckingham of Evansville, initially pulled into a Burger King parking lot before fleeing south on Libbert Road and west on SR 66 toward Evansville.

During the pursuit, Buckingham reportedly passed multiple vehicles on the shoulder, ran red lights at Grimm Road and Epworth Road, and reached speeds near 100 mph on Interstate 69. Police say he also drove through the median into oncoming traffic before continuing onto multiple roadways. Trooper Widner eventually lost sight of the vehicle, and the chase was terminated.

Following an investigation, the Warrick County Prosecutor’s Office issued a warrant charging Buckingham with Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle, a Level 6 Felony, and Reckless Driving, a Class A Misdemeanor.

On August 13, Evansville Police located Buckingham near Park Drive and Keller Street. Authorities say he fled on foot but was quickly apprehended without further incident. He is being held at the Vanderburgh County Jail.
