The Jasper Farmers Market will begin the 2016 season tomorrow from 7:30 till 11:30 am north of the Jasper Train Depot and is welcoming new vendors to participate.

The market began its mission in 2005 with the purpose to provide a source of income to local producers, fresh and local produce to customers and a gathering place to create and develop a greater sense of community.

The market is primarily a producer-only market that requires vendors or their family to grow what is being sold. Produce vendors often offer strawberries, radishes, peas, beets, rhubarb and other items available in early spring. In the past, vendors have offered eggplants, lettuce, pears, apples, cantaloupe, zucchini, corn and much more when in season.

Other food vendors have sold eggs, beef, jellies, bread, and pretzels as well as cookies, cinnamon rolls, and muffins.

The market also welcomes local artisans and their clothing, needlework, jewelry, paper crafts, and soaps and even a face painter.

Student and youth organizations have the opportunity to participate in the market by selling items they may not grow or bake personally but are responsible for selling to fund raise (restrictions do apply).

The first Saturday of every month includes a youth market where children 12 and younger can participate free of charge. Last year, children sold cookies, brownies, cupcakes and bracelets.
