Officials with the Indiana Department of Transportation say a road closure is planned in order for repairs to be made on a drainage culvert just east of Jasper.

INDOT says beginning on or around next Wednesday, August 17th, maintenance crews will close State Road 164 east of Jasper and west of State Road 545 to replace a culvert pipe running perpendicular to the highway.

The department says the operation requires removal of pavement and excavation work and because of those factors, the road will be completely closed to through traffic, however local residents will have access.

Now depending upon weather conditions, the closure is expected to be less than a week.
During the operation, the closure will be in place around the clock. The official detour will be State Road 545, State Road 56, U.S. Hwy 231 and State Road 164.

INDOT urges drivers to slow down and stay alert near crews.

Of course Motorists can learn about highway work zones and other traffic alerts at indot.carsprogram.org or call 800-261-ROAD or 511 from a mobile phone.
