Tuesday, Jasper Arts Commission Program Coordinator Corina Mack announced the plans for a mural at the newly established BREW cafe & restaurant that opened on Labor Day in downtown Jasper. Jasper City Attorney Renee Kabrick stated that because of an art easement that already exists the Arts Commission has approved the mural’s location on the building. The Jasper Board of Public Works and Safety is to also give it’s approval at their next meeting on Tuesday, September 13th.
Artist, Jesa Simon of Henderson, Nevada has been chosen for the project. Simon is a muralist and a founding member of the Arts Advisory Board of Nevada State College. Her resume highlights include: murals at the National Charity League, Arizona Science Center, Conrad Chicago Hotel, and San Francisco General Hospital. Jesa Simon will be visiting Jasper and available to the public on September 22nd at 6p.m. at BREW cafe & restaurant, located downtown. Simon will be discussing the economic benefit of public art in a community like Jasper and about career opportunities in the arts.
The mural created for Jasper is titled Secret Garden and showcases a young girl releasing various birds into the air after discovering a secret garden trapped within the wall behind a zipper.
The wall will be cleaned and primed September 9th through 11th, with the mural being created September 19th through September 24th. The community is welcome to stop by at any time during the painting of the mural to view the creative process.
