Mike Braun has announced a temporary gas tax holiday aimed at providing relief to Hoosiers facing high fuel prices.

The plan includes a 30-day suspension of the state’s 7 percent usage tax on gasoline. The action comes through an emergency declaration issued by the governor and could be extended if conditions warrant.

State officials say the move is intended to lower costs at the pump and improve affordability for Indiana drivers. The administration is also urging gasoline retailers to pass the full savings along to consumers.

In addition, the state plans to closely monitor fuel prices to ensure compliance. The governor has also called on the Indiana Attorney General’s Office to enforce protections against price gouging during the suspension period.

The tax holiday takes effect immediately, with state leaders set to review the impact after the initial 30-day period.
