A five-day calligraphy workshop, titled “Deepening Your Art through Daily Practice I,” will be offered on May 1-5, 2017, at Saint Meinrad Archabbey in St. Meinrad, IN.

The workshop instructor will be Laurie Doctor, who has taught calligraphy on the university level for more than 25 years. She is an international exhibitor and instructor. Although this is a workshop concentrating on calligraphy, Laurie conducts her classes in a retreat-like atmosphere of reflective silence.

Doctor describes the workshop in this way: “A daily practice is a vehicle for both expanding and deepening the work you are here to do. A practice can be many things – one common thread is time away from duty, and a designated place where there are no interruptions, that is sacred.

“In this class, we will enter the temenos, the protected place of our making, and invoke the muse, our imagination and inner imagery. The class will be structured with periods of silence and guided exercises in writing, meditation and calligraphy.”

All levels of experience are welcome. The workshop is limited to 10 participants.

The fee is $515, which includes the workshop, room and meals. All rooms are private. A list of artist materials will be sent to the participants beforehand.

To reserve a place at the workshop or for more information, call the Archabbey Guest House and Retreat Center at (812) 357-6611.
