The Indiana Department of Transportation announced Thursday that $161.2 million in federal transportation funding is being awarded to 66 cities, towns, and counties in rural portions of Indiana to invest in local road and bridge improvements as well as sidewalk and trail projects.
Combined with local funds, approximately $212 million is being invested in infrastructure in communities receiving funds including Washington, Daviess County and Tell City
The City of Washington will receive over 6.9 million dollars for work on Business 50 from Southeast 3rd Street to State Street.
Daviess County will receive over 4.5-million dollars for County Road 900 East from just south of County Road 300 North to south of County Road 450 North which the highway department says will be used for the continuation of a project taking place to widen the road for buggy lanes.
In Tell City Main Street from Jefferson Street to Highway 37 will see around $800,000 dollars worth of improvements.
For this latest round of funding, rural communities will design, develop and purchase land for projects that would be bid during the fiscal year beginning July 2021.
While the funds awarded now are dedicated to construction, INDOT will be financially participating in design, engineering, and right of way acquisition components of these projects.
Rural communities were invited to submit project applications to INDOT for potential funding during a call for projects announced in October 2017.
