A Jasper native has been appointed deputy director of the Indiana State Department of Agriculture.
Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch announced Monday that Jordan Seger, who has been with the department since 2011 and previously served as Division of Soil Conservation director, will now be the agency’s deputy director.
The Lt. Governor who also serves as Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development says Seger’s vast knowledge and expertise, coupled with a lifelong devotion to agriculture, will serve the department, the industry, and the state well.
Seger grew up in Jasper and was involved with his family’s poultry operation. He graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor’s degree in Public Affairs and previously worked for the National Park Service in Maine and Alaska, as well as the Department of Defense in Washington D.C.
In 2011, Seger joined the Department of Agriculture as a field technician. He was promoted a year later to Agriculture and Environmental Affairs program manager and then Division of Soil Conservation director. In that role, he managed department field technicians, the Clean Water Indiana program and supported the coordinated activities of Indiana’s conservation partners.
As deputy director, Seger will support the director in achieving the Department of Agriculture’s mission and strategies. Among many responsibilities, he will oversee the day-to-day operations of the department, represent the department in committees, engage with producer organizations and identify opportunities to grow the state’s agriculture sector.
Seger says he’s grateful for the new opportunity to continue working for the Hoosier agriculture industry and the dedicated professionals at the department. He added that they have a tremendous opportunity to grow this important sector of the economy, and he looks forward to working with farmers and their partners towards this goal.
Seger currently lives in Indianapolis.
