During the late summer and fall months each year, District 48 State Senator Mark Messmer of Jasper along with his colleagues in the General Assembly serve on interim study committees where they discuss and research important issues that might be addressed in the next legislative session.

Study committee topics are assigned by the bipartisan Legislative Council, which is made up of sixteen members — eight senators and eight representatives.

Messmer says during these committee meetings, experts and constituents bring their research, experience and concerns to the members, who listen to testimony, ask questions and discuss the merits of changing state laws on issues assigned for discussion……

 

Messmer says other committees have been studying topics related to reforming public assistance programs to help all Hoosiers be as self-sufficient as possible; updating Indiana’s alcohol laws to simplify the licensing process; and evaluating the effectiveness of workforce development training programs to ensure they prioritize programs that help Hoosiers enter successful careers…..
