An early morning accident led to damage to a local business and an OWI arrest.

Just before 3:00 AM this morning, officers with the Jasper Police Department were notified of a vehicle accident at US 231 and West 5th Street. 22-year-old Quentin Bell of Jasper was traveling southbound on US 231 when he veered off the west side of the roadway in his 2012 Chrysler 200 Series, striking the building belonging to Tom’s Lawn and Garden at 719 W 6th Street. The subject’s vehicle then continued back across the US 231 and stopped upright on the lawn of Pizza Hut at 520 US 231.

Witness reported that Bell was seen trying to enter Holiday Liquors and then leaning against the building. Officers arrived on the scene and requested EMS for a possible head injury. Officers advised there was airbag deployment of Bell’s vehicle. Bell was transported to Memorial ER for further tests and evaluation. Bell had a blood alcohol level of .26. Approximate damage to the Tom’s Lawn and Garden building is estimated to be $10,000 and Bell’s vehicle was a total loss.

Bell was taken to and booked into the Dubois County Security Center on charges of Operating While Intoxicated.
